KÜÇÜK EV:

At the top of the hill stands a medieval Byzantine fortress. The climb up the narrow village streets (there are no vehicles) requires a certain level of fitness. You pass pecking hens, ancient olive trees and yet more ruins.

Half way between the harbour and the castle stands Kucuk Ev. It is difficult to date the house, but the size of stones Küçük Ev made from indicates that it is very old. You enter through the little front garden, with its olive and fig trees. You'll need to duck if you're tall-they built houses low in those days!

There is a kitchen/dining room, the kitchen equipped with gas cooker and fridge-freezer. The dining area leads to a bedroom with two single beds and storage cupboards. There is a small bathroom with basic equpment: wc, washbasin and shower. Upstairs, the living room has a fireplace with marble surround, comfortable furnishings and a sofa bed. The rustic beams that support this old fisherman's cottage are a delight, as are the simple peasant decorations.

The living room leads to the master bedroom, which has a double bed, adequate stoage space and wonderful views. The living room also leads to the delightful wooden balcony with its simple table and chairs.

To do justice to the view in mere words is impossible, but picture the little harbour and unmistakable outline of a Lycian tomb jutting from the water far below you and beautiful Kekova island set in the blue sea. The balcony leads to a small private garden which contains a small orange tree.

When you return from your holiday, you can tell your friends that the villa you stayed in, had its own Lycian tomb cut into rock in the back farden. There is also a working wall (safely covered and locked).

Kucuk Ev 3 hours 15 minutes from Dalaman Ariport.
